If you hop onto tinyblueorange.com on the wayback machine, you’ll get a peek at my ever changing hair colors. For awhile, I even claimed I’d never have orange + blue hair at the same time but…things change. As they should!
Matching Your Brand
While I don’t think everyone needs their life to match their brand (did you know I have a tiny blue car, aptly named tiny blue, with vanity plates to match?), it certainly is fun. It also helps me stay connected to the values of tbo: midwest nice, customer service + online security. We stay small, + on brand to offer the best service to our clients.
Now, there is actually a fair amount of psychology that goes into choosing your branding, + thus your website colors. I want to make it clear that I’m not here to create your branding or even design your website, but I do think it’s fun to dive into color choices so here we go.
Send the Right Message
The right color palette can help customers infer your brand’s message (blue can mean trust + calm, while red can signify passion). Your color choices can also inform the readability of your site. You know we’re all for white space here at tbo, allowing your website visitors to rest their eyes + find what’s really important, but the colors between that blank space tell a story.
I chose orange + blue because they’re complimentary colors. I intentionally wanted my business to complement those that I worked with. Not to mention, I am always chasing that duality. (If you don’t know I’m a gemini by now, where have you been?)
The colors on your site can help channel visitors to certain call to action buttons + can also follow or defy industry norms. If you’re a financial institution but you move away from corporate blue, you’re showing visitors you’re different from the rest.
I’m Here to Build You a Kickass Site
So while you don’t need to dye your hair or have your branding colors in the name of your company (or do you?), colors matter + once you have your brand + design ready, I’m here to build you a kickass site.
